About Torsoplasty
The Torsoplasty or Body Lift procedure is designed for people who have lost large amounts of weight either through diet and exercise or through gastric/intestinal bypass surgery. Other candidates for the Body Lift procedure are those who have excessive sagging skin from aging or pregnancy. A Torsoplasty can remove the excess skin that causes poor posture, aching of back and shoulders and chronic hygiene issues due to sweat build up in skin folds.
As an alternative to surgery, Liposuction may be performed provided there is good skin tone and the individual is of normal weight, with localized abdominal fatty deposits. However Liposuction can not remove excess skin.
Your Consultation
Dr Briggs will discuss your reasons for wanting this type of procedure and determine your suitability for the surgery. He may recommend specific areas that would benefit from such surgery.
He will highlight that it is important to remain realistic about the outcomes of Body Lift surgery; it will not produce a perfect result or create an untarnished figure.
Torsoplasty Perth: What To Expect
Torsoplasty is a major surgery and as such is performed under general anaesthetic, you will be required to stay between one and two nights in hospital.
The order and length of a body lift procedure varies according to the needs of the patient, however it takes approximately 5-6 hours to complete. It involves removing skin and body fat from the buttocks, hips, back and thighs from each side. Then a procedure not unlike a “tummy tuck” is performed to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen. The abdominal muscles are exposed and tightened. Then the loose skin plus remaining fat is excised from almost the whole of the central body, while weak muscles are tightened. The amount of skin and fat that is removed is dependent on your needs and the limits of safety for such an operation; this varies greatly from patient to patient.
After Your Body Lift Surgery
Initially after surgery there will be some pain, bruising, swelling and numbness around the operation sites, this is normal. Following surgery you will need to wear a compression garment at all times. Recovery times vary depending on the degree of surgery, although most patients are able to return to normal activites between 4-6 weeks post surgery.
More To Consider
There will be scarring running around the abdomen, the hips and the upper buttock area which may take up to 18 months before they flatten and lighten in color. These scars will remain, however they can be hidden under clothing.
