Your Rhinoplasty Consultation: Some Important Decisions.
During consultation Dr. Briggs will inquire as to what you are hoping to achieve. He will also examine how well you are presently breathing through your nose and what benefits surgery could offer. It is important at this time that you are forthright with your expectations, so that Dr. Briggs can determine whether it is possible and desirable.
In discussing the size, shape, appearance etc. of the nose you want, Dr. Briggs can advise of the particular type of Rhinoplasty that would be suitable.
Rhinoplasty Perth: What to Expect
This type of procedure requires the use of General Anaesthetic and it is required that you stay overnight in the hospital post surgery. The surgery itself takes approximately between 1.5 and 2 hours, depending on the technique used.
Surgery involves incisions that are generally made within the nose. The surgery is a process of reshaping the bone and cartilage to reach the desired look.- To narrow the nose - the nasal bones may be broken so that the cartilage can be moved inward.
- To narrow the base of the nose – the tissue at the base of the nose is removed and the nostrils are moved inwards.
- To remove a hump – The cartilage and bone is shaved or cut.
- To shape the tip of the nose – This may require adding or removing cartilage at the tip.
- To raise the tip of the nose – This may require adding, removing or repositioning cartilage.
After correcting the framework of the nose the skin is re-draped and the incisions are closed with sutures. A small splint is applied to the outside of the nose and the inside of the nose is packed with cotton wadding to stabilize the septum. These internal packs are removed the morning after surgery. The external splint remains in place for approximately one week.
After Your Nose Surgery
After surgery expect your face to be swollen and puffy, and your nose may have a dull ache. You may also have difficulty breathing through your nose for several days; this should ease greatly after the packing and splint are removed. You should not blow your nose for at least a week post surgery or undertake any vigorous activity that increases blood pressure for at least two weeks.
It is important to remember that the final result may take up several weeks to appear and continued follow-ups will be scheduled to monitor progress.
