Neck Lift Surgery Perth, Western Australia
A neck lift is a plastic surgery procedure that is used to tighten loose skin, remove excess fat, reduce a double chin, reduce jowls, define the jaw line and eliminate the unsightly “turkey neck”. Neck plastic surgery can reduce the appearance of ageing and remove the excess skin that is created by weight loss.
The neck becomes loose with age as the platysma, the sheet of muscle that extends from the neck to the jaw line and lower face, slackens and loses definition.
Neck lift surgery to correct these problems usually consists of two procedures namely: Cervicoplasty and Platysmaplasty. Cervicoplasty is administered to remove excess skin, while Platysmaplasty alters or removes neck muscles. A combination of these procedures may be used as may Liposuction, to remove excess fat.

Your Neck Plastic Surgery Consultation
Neck lift surgery is a very individualised procedure, and the outcome will be different for everyone. That is why before you make any decisions you will have a consultation with Dr Briggs to discuss your needs and goals for the surgery.
During this consultation, Dr Briggs will evaluate your general health as well as your neck and face, including the skin, muscle, fat, and underlying bone. He will explain the factors that can influence the outcome of your surgery, and photographs will be taken for your medical record.
You will discuss which procedure is correct for you and whether a combination of procedures is more suitable. It is not uncommon to have an associated procedure such as a Face Lift in conjunction with Neck Lift surgery. This will also be discussed within the consultation.
Neck Plastic Surgery Perth: The Operation
Neck lift surgery usually takes between two and three hours and is performed under general anaesthetic. You will be required to stay overnight in hospital.- If you are having a Platysmaplasty, to lessen the appearance of a sagging neck your surgeon will make small incisions under your chin and behind your ears. The platysma is drawn towards the jaw line, trimmed and then sutured into its new position.
- Cervicoplasty surgery removes the excess skin in the neck area. In this procedure, the surgeon will make incisions similar to those of Platysmaplasty, trim some parts of the skin, and lift it into place.
- Excess fat is removed under direct vision to allow for accurate contouring of the neck.
After Your Neck Lift Surgery
You will be required to wear a compression garment after your surgery. It should be removed before showering and replaced once you are finished.
You may feel mild discomfort after the procedure; this can be controlled with pain medication prescribed by your surgeon. Do not however take aspirin as this may encourage bleeding.
Most people can return to work in 10-14 days. You may drive at 48 hours, swim at 2 weeks and resume strenuous exercise after 6 weeks.
You may feel tightness or tingling, and different sensations including burning or pulling. You also will experience numbness. These are all very normal in the first few weeks following surgery and should not be cause for concern.
