Liposuction / Liposculpture Perth, Western Australia

Liposuction is the removal of fat deposits using a hollow stainless steel tube called a cannula and a powerful vacuum machine. It is not a procedure designed for weight loss. Many people use Liposuction to improve the shape of their legs, buttocks, waist, abdomen, breasts, chest, neck and chin.

Your Consultation: Deciding If Liposuction Is Right For You.

It is important that you discuss your expectations and goals with your surgeon and in turn he will be able to offer you a realistic opinion. Liposuction is not suitable for all types of fat removal and in these cases other procedures such as Abdominoplasty or an Arm lift might be a better alternative.

It is advisable that before surgery, you adopt a healthy diet and exercise regime to give yourself the best possible outcome from surgery. Patients who are near their “ideal weight”, but are unable to reduce fatty areas with diet and exercise, are the best possible candidates.

Liposuction Perth: What To Expect.

Liposuction is performed under general anaesthetic and as such, an overnight stay in hospital is advised. Depending on the amount of fat being removed and the technique being used, the surgery can take anywhere between 30 mins and several hours.

Tumescent Liposuction

In Tumescent Liposuction the area to be treated is injected with large amounts of fluid containing a salt solution, adrenaline and a local anaesthetic to minimize discomfort after the procedure. The adrenaline acts to stop bleeding and the solution itself swells the fat cells. A cannula is inserted into the swollen fat cells and is moved backwards and forwards to remove the fat tissue. Suction is then used to remove the fat cells and most of the solution.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction

This method of Liposuction uses a cannula that utilizes ultrasound energy to turn the fat cells in to liquid. The energy produces vibrations that disrupt the fat cells, which are then removed via suction. This technique is preferred as it reduces bruising and swelling postoperatively. Patients also report faster recovery and a smoother surface even after more intense contouring. Both variations of surgery can be combined.

After Your Liposculpture Surgery

After surgery you will be required to wear a compression garment for up to 12 weeks. This will initially be worn day and night, and then approx 6 weeks after the procedure, it will only need to be worn at night.

Liposuction, although only creating small wound sites externally, causes a great deal of bruising and swelling under the skin. This is normal and will begin to fade a week after the surgery, but some discolouration may appear for several weeks.

It is important that after your procedure you receive adequate rest to aid in the healing process.

Most patients are able to return to work after approx. one or two weeks, with normal activity being able to be achieved after 6 weeks. This will however depend on the extent of your Liposuction.
