Breast Implants Perth, Western Australia
A surgical procedure used to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breasts using implants. Breast augmentation is performed for a number of reasons:
- To enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breasts are too small.
- To restore loss of breast volume after pregnancy.
- To balance a difference in breast size.
It is important to remember whatever your reasons for breast augmentation are, that the decision alone is yours. You should never consider having the surgery to please someone else. Keep in mind that although the procedure will change your appearance, it will not change your life.

Breast Augmentation Perth: About The Procedure
All implants used in Australia consist of a silicone outer shell, containing Silicone Gel.
In the breast augmentation procedure, breast implants are placed underneath the breast tissue. Sometimes breast implants are placed under the chest muscles. The position of breast implants is a choice based on the shape of your current breast, the amount of breast tissue and overall body size.
Incisions for insertion of the breast implant can be made in three places: in the fold of skin under the breast (inframammary), the bottom or outer edge of the areola (areola/periareolar) or in the armpit (transaxillary).
Dr. Briggs will guide you through the decisions regarding placement of the implant, type of implant and incision placement in your consultation. He will also discuss the different options available to you and offer you the best choice for your particular body shape and height.
One way Dr. Briggs will help you decide is by having you try on various size bras with bra fillers to get a sense of how large an implant would be appropriate.
This procedure is performed under general anaesthetic and you may stay overnight in the hospital or have the surgery performed as a day case.
Recovery From Breast Augmentation
Post surgery some discomfort and pain are normal and pain relief will be made available to you for a few days after the procedure, if required.
There will be some swelling and bruising for the next one to two weeks and scars will remain red for a few months, and then fade.
Strenuous athletic activities will be restricted for at least three weeks after surgery.
Risks of Breast Implants
With all surgery there are risks involved. Breast augmentation carries general risks such as bruising and swelling, along with a surgical incision scar.
There are more specific risks which will be discussed during your consultation; however breast augmentation is a well established procedure that has been performed on many millions of women worldwide over the last three decades. The majority of women who have had the procedure report that they are delighted with the result.
