Tummy Tuck Surgery Perth, Western Australia

A tummy tuck, as this procedure is commonly known, is used to reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. This problem of excess skin and fat around the belly can be the result of pregnancy, weight loss, or through normal aging. These events cause stretching of the abdominal skin as well as the underlying muscles.

The procedure of Abdominoplasty removes the excess skin and fat and also tightens the abdominal muscles, therefore, reestablishing the integrity of the abdominal wall.

Abdominoplasty in many cases is the only effective option for people with excess abdominal skin. Additionally, this procedure can be performed to excise stretch marks and correct the scars of Caesarean operations.

Your Abdominoplasty Consultation

You will be shown where the incision will be made and how the scar will fall within the ‘bikini’ or ‘boxer’ line under the abdomen; this helps to hide the surgical scar under clothes.

Abdominoplasty Perth: What To Expect.

During the Tummy Tuck surgery, an incision is made. Excess skin and fat are removed by the surgeon, the muscle beneath is tightened, the skin is redraped to provide a more pleasing body shape, and often the belly button is moved to a new position within the newly contoured abdomen.

The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and should be viewed as major surgery. As such, you would be required to stay between one and two nights in hospital.

After Your Tummy Tuck Surgery.

The dressings from the surgery are usually left in place until the first visit to the practice one week following your operation.

Post surgery there will be a feeling of tightness around the tummy. You will also be required to wear a compression garment or girdle and this should be worn for three to four weeks.

Moderate discomfort and pain can be expected for about two days. This discomfort can be controlled by medication in the form of strong pain killers. Aspirin must be avoided because it can cause bleeding.
  • Initially there will be some numbness of the skin, predominately in the lower tummy area. This is normal; it will recover in due course.
  • Strenuous exercise can be resumed after 6 weeks post surgery.
  • It will however take several months for the healing process to finalise.
